American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities for youth, young adults and emerging professionals of all background to explore and help restore America's public lands while gaining practical professional conservation experience. As a national conservation corps, ACE holds an established reputation for providing exceptional training and support to allow field crews to safely implement and complete technically complex and critical conservation projects on public lands for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, Fish & Wildlife Service and numerous state and local land management partners.


Job Title: Member Support Coordinator, Pacific West

Location: Ridgecrest, California and Sacramento, California

Department/Division: CREW, Pacific West

Status: Regular Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Schedule/Hours: Full-time. Flexible schedule with varying shifts; 40 hours/week with additional hours as needed. Some evening and weekend hours may be occasionally required.

Reports To: ACE Pacific West Associate Director of Member Services

Travel: Yes, moderate regional travel required.

Desired Start Date: January 2022


Position Summary:

The ACE Member Support Coordinator is an office-based position and works closely with all ACE staff members and volunteer AmeriCorps members within the ACE Pacific West Division. We believe the ACE Experience begins when an individual learns about the opportunity to serve. Our Member Support Coordinators are responsible for engaging with interested applicants through outreach and recruitment efforts as well as working directly with selected members to onboard and help prepare them for success into our Pacific West Conservation Crew Program. As an ACE Member Support Coordinator, you will be responsible for meeting the recruitment and AmeriCorps Member management needs of ACE's Pacific West Division, a program that operates year-round completely trail, restoration and conservation field projects from the Pacific coast to the peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to the Mojave Desert and all other aspiring landscapes of the West! As a member of our staff team, you will frequently interact with ACE's AmeriCorps members throughout their ACE volunteer service as well as the general public and as such is expected to maintain a professional demeanor, positive attitude, and willingness to act as an ambassador of ACE's program at all times. In this fast-paced and interactive position, you will need to be flexible, adaptable, and enthusiastic working as a member of a dedicated team in an office environment with regular visits to field operation locations. ACE Member Support Coordinator's three primary responsibility areas include:

1) Member outreach, recruitment, and onboarding

2) Ongoing member support

3) AmeriCorps program compliance.


We have two open Member Support Coordinator positions: One position will be based out of our Ridgecrest, CA field base for our Southern Region programming and one position will be based of our Sacramento, CA field base for our Northern/Central Region programming. Both position will require some regional travel (15%) to visit crew project locations and attend outreach/recruitment events. These positions do require in-office participation but there will be some telework/remote work flexibility options available for some administrative position tasks.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Member Outreach, Recruitment, and Onboarding

  • Serve as the primary contact for members during the outreach, recruitment, and onboarding phase of their service.
  • Develop and implement a standard protocol for attracting diverse cohorts of new members to the division with an emphasis on attracting people who self-identify as belonging to groups that are currently under-represented in the division.
  • Recruit ACE Pacific West members as needed by conducting interviews and screening candidates utilizing a standard recruitment protocol.
  • Meet regularly and collaborate with other ACE Member Support staff to improve communication and best practices in outreach and recruiting efforts as well as onboarding processes.
  • Maintain strong communication between ACE staff and all incoming and current members.
  • Create and implement training for new members including Leave No Trace training and Goal Setting sessions.
  • Order, distribute and maintain counts on member uniform resources
  • Network and develop partnerships with organizations/entities in the local community

Member Support

  • Collaborate with ACE staff to mentor and develop conservation volunteer members into stewardship and leadership roles
  • Assist in uploading and managing member information in ACE's internal database.
  • Maintain the utmost professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive communications with members and staff.
  • Serve as an ACE point of contact for members during their off-project days.
  • Develop and implement an ongoing training and development program focused on interpersonal skills and professional development.
  • Conduct and document required Mid-Term Evaluations and End-of-Term Evaluations with every member in the conservation service program
  • Ensure that all members complete volunteer service project (VSP) requirements as listed in the Member Service Agreement. Network and coordinate with community partners, develop new partnerships, and communicate opportunities with members on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure that members have the most up-to-date resources that supplement their field experience by updating member schedules with information for professional development opportunities, trainings, etc.
  • In coordination with Project Managers, conduct debrief sessions with members post field projects.
  • Conduct regular site visits to field operation locations to connect with members during projects and stay abreast of the member experience in the field.
  • Participate in work sessions with other ACE divisions with process improvement and organizational development that work towards ACE being the program, partner, and employer of choice. A strong interest and active participation in Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) is required.
  • Assist with identification of potential alumni ambassadors among exiting program members.

AmeriCorps Program Compliance

  • Assist with AmeriCorps compliance throughout a member's term.
  • Ensure that a full AmeriCorps Orientation is delivered to every new member in coordination with other ACE staff. Ensure all orientation follow-up items are completed on time.
  • Assist division leadership with administering and allocating slots for AmeriCorps grants
  • Collaborate with ACE staff to ensure compliance with all AmeriCorps requirements and meeting data compliance standards
  • Review AmeriCorps member timesheets weekly for accuracy and timesheet compliance in a timely fashion while working with members to submit those sheets regularly
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must have a strong comfort level speaking on the phone

  • Willingness to travel locally, work occasional weekends and attend community events.

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills with the ability to maintain and effectively support a complex array of projects
  • Computer skills required including intermediate knowledge of Excel and Google Suites, and professional email etiquette; Strong data management skills.
  • Ability to function as an efficient, effective and adaptable team member displaying professional-level proficiencies in both technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes.
  • Proven ability to work independently and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university preferred.
  • 1-2 years of previous experience with volunteer or AmeriCorps member management and support, preferably in a Conservation Corps.
  • Experience working with AmeriCorps program compliance, administration, and management.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to pass a federal criminal background check

The ideal candidate will have an established passion in recruiting, supporting and developing the next generation of environmental stewards and leaders with interest and dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion. Past experience in outdoor recreation or manual labor while working and camping through adverse weather conditions in the outdoors is preferred. Ideally, this candidate will also have experience with residential youth programs.

Compensation: $24/hour for 40 hours/week (52 week annualized salary of $49,920)

Holidays, Vacation, and Sick Time:


As an ACE staff member, you will be eligible to accrue up 80 hours of paid vacation time annually during your first two years of employment, then it increases to 120 hours annually. Additionally, ACE observes 11 paid annual holidays and provides 10 days (or 80 hours) of paid sick time annually.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, hiking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Manual dexterity required for use of hand and power tools, computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch. Ability to hike over rough terrain, and camp overnight under field conditions

Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus

Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently lifts up to 25 lbs., ability to lift up to 60 pounds

Environmental: Outdoor and indoor conditions. Work environment conditions can change frequently; working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates

Noise Environment: Moderate to high noise such gas-powered chainsaws and other hand and power tools

Travel: This position requires domestic, regional travel
