POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: ACE Pacific West Central Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

 

American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities that harness the idealism and energy of a volunteer labor force to help restore America's public lands.  ACE has a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable crews to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding conservation projects for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, USFWS and numerous state and local land management partners.

 

Under direct supervision of the ACE's Pacific West Senior Director, the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor (FMS) is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and sanitation of the buildings, equipment and property as assigned. The FMS will play a lead role in facility preparation/management/implementation, quality control, safety compliance, and equipment maintenance, and perform related work as assigned. FMS is critical in facility communication, coordination and logistical organization for all ACE operations onsite at ACE Pacific West Central camp facility located near Big Basin State Park. The incumbent will be responsible for interacting positively with ACE corpsmembers, staff & visitors and responds to request personally or informs Division Director.

 

This FMS is required to live onsite at ACE Pacific West Central camp facility near Big Basin State Park in Boulder Creek, CA. In collaboration with ACE staff, the FMS will play an important role in advancing ACE's core values of safety, professionalism, integrity, flexibility, quality, enthusiasm, dedication, and passion. The FMS will ensure that ACE Pacific West Central camp facility is fully prepared and equipped with the necessary camp supplies and equipment.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Perform grounds maintenance duties which may include, but are not limited to, snow removal, mowing, clearing trees, brushing, and fencing.
  • Perform general building maintenance duties which may include, but are not limited to, carpentry projects, appliance repair and upkeep, clearing plumbing clogs and repairing leaking faucets.
  • Perform janitorial duties which may include, but are not limited to, wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, super scrub meeting set up, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, and general cleaning as requested or needed.
  • Maintains safe, clean and secure housing Fire alarm checks, appliance checks, standards of hygiene, & secure property.
  • Record all needed repairs and report all repairs to Division Director and follow up with applicable ACE staff and crew members.
  • Ensure ACE camp facilities/buildings and property are secure and report incidents and hazardous conditions to Division Director.
  • Safely clean up blood or body fluids which could contain bloodborne pathogens according to OSHA and bloodborne pathogen training standards.
  • Operate motorized equipment and ACE fleet vehicles used for cleaning and general maintenance.
  • Operate tractor, snow blower, chainsaws, brush cutters, weed eaters, mowers, and more.
  • Respond to afterhours or weather-related emergencies as needed.
  • Maintain professional communications and relations with California State Parks, ACE Pacific West Central staff, Crew Members, and the general public.
  • Welcome new ACE Pacific West Central corpsmembers (staff and volunteers) to the housing and conduct orientation tours.
  • Organize bed/room lists for ACE Pacific West Central members.
  • Ensure the alcohol and drug free housing rules are observed by corpsmembers.
  • Liaising with local contracts regarding facility renovations and repairs. Includes the development of quote for services and upgrades onsite.
  • Supervises super scrub activities as needed. Monitors the tidiness of shared spaces and bedrooms.
  • Supervise, assist, train, evaluate, mentor, and/or discipline ACE Pacific West Central corpsmembers.
  • Must reside onsite.
  • May be required to act as a crew leader and lead crews in the absence of a crew leader and project manager.
  • As time permits, assists in the following responsibilities:
    • Corpsmember orientations
    • Rrainings
    • Fleet maintenance, project managing and food shopping

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must secure Wilderness First Aid (WFA)/CPR/BBP certification within 14 days of employment and maintain certification.
  • Over 21 years of age.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Legally able to work in the US.
  • A valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Ability to prevent, analyze and resolve safety issues; possess knowledge of safety procedures as applied to camp facility operations.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in camp facility operations.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, and policies governing camp operations or willing to learn.
  • Experience in planning for and managing large groups of people in professional manner.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills necessary to organize young adults, ensuring a positive culture and a high-quality, efficient service.
  • Past working experience in small to medium sized facilities.
  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other routine office equipment. Will be required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs and/or crouch.
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently lifts up to 25 lbs., occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
  • Working knowledge of young adult development, team-building and motivational techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles of young adult development, team-building and motivational techniques.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of culturally and economically diverse employees and crew members to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to adapt to surrounding work environment and conditions that can change frequently.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex safety issues.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes.
  • Must maintain a positive, constructive work environment conducive to team dynamics.
  • Must maintain timely, effective communication with California State parks, ACE staff and corpsmembers.
  • Must enforce the use of appropriate safety procedures in all tasks.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willing to undergo and must pass a federal criminal background check.
  • Willingness to abide by ACE policy and Federal Drug Free Workplace laws; marijuana and other controlled substances are not allowed while performing job duties or while on federal property, regardless of State law or qualified medical marijuana card status.  

 

Start Date: On or before _____Monday, November 18th 2019____

 

Hours: 40 hours/week year-round.  Some week nights and weekends required. 

 

Compensation: The compensation for this position is $15.00/hour - $18.00/hour. Shared housing and all utilities are included as part of the compensation. Benefits package includes paid vacation and holidays, 401k retirement, and health, dental and other insurances.
