Project Manager - Logistics

 

 Exemption Status:  Exempt 

 

 Required Duties and Responsibilities:

This position has direct responsibility over three general areas:  1) Facilities management 2) Field operations management, 3) Training Assistance. The amount of time required per week for each task varies widely throughout the year but an average % of time spent per week indicated next to each task.

  1. Facilities Management (~75%)

This position is the point of contact for maintenance and upkeep all of ACE's Mountain West branch properties, vehicles, as well as equipment and tools.  The position ensures that crew housing, staff office space and shop, and all associated crew vehicles and tools are in the highest working condition.

Facilities:

This position has responsibility to take care of any minor maintenance or repairs in the crew housing in Hurricane and the shop/office.  If tasks exceed the expertise of the position this person is responsible for coordinating and overseeing contractors doing major repairs.   

This position is responsible for meeting with and coordinating with ACE housing supervisors to understand housing needs as well as enforce house policies.

Vehicles:

Vehicles are frequently inspected by the person in this position to assure vehicles are receiving proper maintenance and are in good working condition.  This position receives and reviews the crew's vehicle report forms and is responsible for identifying and resolving issues (personally or via a mechanic) outlined on these forms in a timely and professional manner and maintenance logs are kept up to date.

Tools:

This position has responsibility to frequently inspect and perform repair, sharpening, and general maintenance on equipment and tools used by conservation corps crews to ensure crews have adequate equipment and tools in good working order. This position works in cooperation with other staff to identify maintenance needs and ensure that crews have the tools and supplies needed to successfully complete each unique project.

 

  1. Field Operations Assistance (~15%)

This position will be responsible for assisting ACE staff in conducting site visits to prepare for conservation corps projects, assist crews with technical issues, and in the supervision (acting as a crew leader) of conservation crews on an as-needed basis. 

  1. Training Assistance (~10%)

This position works closely and under the direction of other staff to assist in conducting new corps member orientations, trainings (i.e. Driver, chainsaw, herbicide, trail, and safety).  These trainings may occur in an office or field setting depending on the needs of the training, participants, and associated project.

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in conservation/environmental restoration operations.
  • Ability to perform or coordinate the maintenance and care of facilities, vehicles, and tools
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks and accomplish these tasks in a systematic and logical way.
  • Considerable knowledge of safety procedures applied to field operations.
  • Knowledge of principles of young adult development, team-building and motivational techniques.
  • Ability to lead and train individuals and teams.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools, including chainsaws, Pionjars, rigging equipment etcetera.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of culturally and economically diverse employees to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to adapt to surrounding work environment and conditions that can change frequently.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, and often under adverse weather conditions and in various climates.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex safety issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with corps members, partner agency staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes including supervisor key responsibilities.

 

 Essential Functions Specific to the Job:

  • Oversees maintenance and of tools, vehicles, field-related equipment, including organization of ACE equipment and supplies.
  • Assists ACE Staff in conducting conservation skills related trainings.
  • Performs field visits as quality control and to provide technical and logistical assistance.

Makes recommendations for purchase of field supplies, tools, etc. following the operation manager's budget

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 Must maintain a positive, constructive work environment conducive to team dynamics.

  • Must maintain timely, effective communication with crew, project partners and supervisors,
  • Must enforce the use of appropriate safety procedures in all tasks.
  • Must maintain optimal physical health, including a drug-free lifestyle.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check prior to hire. Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for appointment to this classification.

 Compensation:   Salary of $640/week
