American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, provides professional development opportunities for young adults seeking to enhance their career experience. ACE's Emerging Professionals in Conservation (EPIC) program has a national reputation for providing young adults and recent graduates with hands-on, professional development individual placement opportunities to work alongside and under the guidance of agency mentors as they apply their knowledge of resource management on their path to becoming the next generation of resource and land managers.

Job Title: Eastern Member Manager, EPIC National Park Service (NPS)

Location: ACE currently has offices in Sacramento, CA; Ridgecrest, CA; Hurricane, UT; Flagstaff, AZ; and Asheville, NC. This position can also work remotely in the Eastern continental US.

Department/Division: EPIC (National Park Service)

Status: Regular, Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt)

Schedule/Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week (Monday - Friday, flexible hours but expected to be on duty during ACE Core Business Hours of 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm Eastern time to accommodate business needs in all US time zones), with some adjustment expected to accommodate specific projects and program needs. Some evening and weekend hours may be occasionally required.

Start Date: ASAP/ Early April 2024

Reports To: Eastern Program Manager, EPIC NPS Division

Position Summary:

The ACE EPIC National Park Service (NPS) Division hosts over 300 members in individual placement projects each year across the country in National Parks, Monuments, Sites, Recreational Areas, Trails, Rivers, Battlefields, and Heritage Areas. Projects supported are diverse and range from invasive species control, riparian and wetland restoration, threatened and endangered species research and management, records reconciliation, realty, vertebrate and invertebrate research and management, ecology, landscape level planning, recreation management, and outreach and visitor services. Our ACE EPIC NPS team recruits, places, and supports young adults and recent graduates with individual placement service opportunities to work on these NPS projects.

The Eastern Member Manager is an office-based position that works closely with all staff members and volunteers (AmeriCorps and Non-AmeriCorps members) within the ACE Division. The Eastern Member Manager leads the ACE Division recruitment efforts and serves as the main project-related point of contact for members and partners as well as other public/private partners and projects. The Eastern Member Manager coordinates internally with the ACE staff and Division Director with operational, programmatic, and project-specific tasks.

The Eastern Member Manager will be responsible for leading the recruitment and member management needs of ACE Division. The Eastern Member Manager will frequently interact with ACE's members and other divisions as well as the general public, and as such is expected to maintain a professional demeanor, positive attitude, and willingness to act as an ambassador of ACE's program at all times. The Eastern Member Manager will need to be flexible, adaptable, and enthusiastic while working in a fast-paced office environment with regular visits to field operation locations. The Eastern Member Manager's three primary responsibility areas include:

1) Member outreach, recruitment, and onboarding

2) Member management and partner support

3) Administrative program compliance

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

With the primary direction and support of the ACE EPIC NPS Associate Director, Member Programs, along with team support, the Eastern Member Manager will:

Recruitment and Outreach:

Assist with recruitment and outreach efforts for the EPIC NPS Program, including:

  • Develop position announcements for individual placements
  • Post and advertise EPIC NPS project opportunities and positions
  • Conduct applicant interviewing/vetting in coordination with NPS staff
  • Follow up with candidates about application status and materials
  • Compile and prepare applicant information and collaborate with project partners on applicant placement
  • Research and formulate recruitment strategies including finding new recruitment sites, and building relationships with academic institutions, agencies, tribes, and local organizations while recruiting, interviewing and reviewing prospective candidates.
  • Assist with ensuring timely and accurate onboarding and data entry of selected ACE members.

Member Support:

  • Oversees all aspects of member management for a portion of ACE members (recruitment, placement, onboarding, support, and exiting); Responsible for ensuring members are provided a positive and engaging experience, as well as performing to ACE standards.
  • Serve as a main point of contact for member inquiries on many aspects of the member's position including: travel, training, vehicles, uniforms, safety, PPE, mentorship, etc.
  • Assist with time and attendance reporting and processing.
  • Coordinate the order and shipping of member uniforms for individual placement projects.
  • Assist with AmeriCorps program enrollments, exits, and audits.
  • ​​Directly engage and support agency partners throughout each member's term; this can include:
    • Confirming logistical information, establishing expectations of project duties and schedule, and ongoing communication
    • Monitor member and partner feedback and respond appropriately, including facilitating disciplinary action with support from the National Director as required.
  • Understand and utilize ACE data management.
  • Adhere to ACE safety policies and procedures.
  • Support ACE and Divisional efforts to expand the diversity of participants in our programming and make our programs more accessible to young people of all backgrounds.
  • Responsibilities and tasks outlined are not exhaustive and may change as determined by ACE.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a team
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must have a strong comfort level speaking on the phone.
  • Ability to independently manage one's workload
  • Commitment to ACE's mission of public service through youth development & volunteerism.
  • A deep and continuing interest in the welfare and professional development of ACE participants.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to effectively multitask and maintain coordination of time-sensitive compliance needs for members serving nationwide, utilizing proprietary database tools.
  • Ability to think creatively and proactively, organize tasks, work independently and as part of a team, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer management skills including experience or willingness to learn applicant tracking software and personnel databases, iOS, MS Office, Google Suite, and webinar platforms such as Zoom, or equivalents.
  • Must be flexible and eager to engage with the highly mobile and predominantly remote teams that make up ACE.
  • Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes

  • Knowledge and or understanding of National Service Programs like AmeriCorps is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge and or understanding of the National Park Service or federal land management agencies is preferred, but not required.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch (all physical demands are required with or without reasonable accommodations).
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 10 lbs., occasionally moves up to 25 pounds.
  • Environmental: Mainly indoor, office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled.
  • Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
  • Travel: This position may require domestic travel as needed (to visit project sites/recruitment events)

Compensation: Starting annualized salary of $44,000 - $49,000, based on experience.

Benefits: ACE offers competitive medical and ancillary plans (health, mental health, dental, vision and other supplemental benefits). ACE Staff members are also eligible to participate in ACE's retirement plan with a 1% employer contribution.


Holidays, Vacation, and Sick Time: As an ACE staff member, you will be eligible to accrue up to 80 hours of paid vacation time annually during your first two years of continuous employment, then it increases to 120 hours annually. ACE observes 13 paid annual holidays (floating holiday flexibility). ACE provides 10 days (or 80 hours) of paid sick time annually.
