American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities that harness the idealism and energy of a volunteer labor force to help restore America's public lands.  ACE has a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable crews to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding conservation projects for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, USFWS and numerous state and local land management partners.

Job Title: Provision and Supplies Coordinator

Exemption Status:  Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

The ACE Mountain West program is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Provisions and Supplies Coordinator to ensure our crews are prepared for excellence on our projects. The part-time Provisions and Supplies Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that ACE crews are equipped and prepared with quality and healthy food and camp supplies for field projects last up to eight-days in backcountry settings. A high level to detail as well as excellent organizational skills are mandatory for success in this position. This part-time position is based out of Hurricane, Utah.

 

The Provision and Supplies Coordinator  is responsible for managing all aspects of planning, purchasing, and providing meal provisions and supplies for ACE Crews working in the field including:

  • Creatively developing nutritious meal plans applicable for up to six, eight person crews;
  • Purchasing bulk items and ingredients to facilitate the meal plans;
  • Packing the ingredients into coolers and bins and delivery to the crews as they prepare to depart for up to 8 days of field work;
  • Purchasing other consumables and camp-related necessities, including first aid supplies;
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitary provisions warehouse.

The Provisions and Supplies Coordinator will review crew schedules, identify dietary needs and crew member restrictions to develop meal plans taking into account suitable options (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc.) for the members. Crews typically work an 8 day work schedule where meal ingredients and associated supplies are provided in bulk all at once prior to crew departure.  This position is a part- time, hourly requiring up to 48 hours in a 2 week pay period.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Procure quality, economic provisions, equipment, and supplies for crews.
  • Maintain first aid and personal protective equipment supply stocks.
  • Manage organization and cleanliness of food and supplies storage in the ACE shop/warehouse

Typical Duties:

Management of Food Provisions:

  • Prepare recipes and ingredient lists for each ACE crew departing for project.
  • Purchase food within budget parameters for ACE crews and organize food in dry boxes and coolers.
  • Develop and manage safe, OSHA compatible storage protocols of non-perishable food and cookset items in a clean and organized manner.
  • Track food purchase costs, waste, and member satisfaction with meals, broken down by crew, duration, and crew size.
  • Oversee operation of sorting left over food as it returns from project, ensuring that non-perishables are restocked and coolers are clean, hygienic, and maintained.
  • Track local sales and stockpile sale items in bulk where applicable.
  • Regular communication with Region Director, Project Managers, and Crew Leaders to learn of weekly shopping needs for crews.
  • Review weekly food feedback forms and work with Field Operations Teams to make improvements.

Supplies Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a healthy back stock of all necessary de-rig supply items
  • Maintain and replenish first aid and personal protective equipment supply stocks
  • Ensure that the warehouse remains clean and organized.
  • Work closely with the Logistics Manager with maintaining stocks of personal protective equipment, gloves, hardhats, glasses and earplugs for crews

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with ACE staff, corps members, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes.
  • Ability to demonstrate prudent purchasing practices.
  • Proficient with basic computer software (google docs, word, excel, etc)
  • Ability to create healthy, cost effective meal plans for crews
  • Ability to break meals into subsequent ingredients and estimate quantities to satisfy the planned meals.
  • Ability to adapt to surrounding work conditions and schedules that may change frequently.
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes including ACE's Fiscal Policy and Budgeting requirements.

Other Requirements:

  • If the candidate is currently an AmeriCorps Member, the candidate must successfully complete their AmeriCorps term before March 30, 2019.
  • Must maintain a positive, constructive work environment conducive to team dynamics.
  • Must be flexible and possess a high work ethic
  • Must maintain timely, effective communication with supervisors, and crew members.
  • Must enforce the use of appropriate safety procedures in all tasks.
  • Must maintain optimal physical health, including a drug-free lifestyle.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check prior to hire. Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for appointment to this classification. This position is a covered position that may entail recurring access to vulnerable populations such as youth and the elderly. Selection for the position is contingent upon a review of all criminal history results.

Compensation: Part-time, hourly, starting at $14.00/hour (not to exceed 30 hours/week)
