ACE Logistics Coordinator - Southern California

American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities that harness the idealism and energy of a volunteer labor force to help restore America's public lands.  ACE has a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable crews to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding conservation projects for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, USFWS and numerous state and local land management partners. ACE's California leadership team is seeking one (1) logistics coordinator to work under the direction of the Southern California Director to assist in providing supplies and support for teams of young adult Corps members in completion of environmental conservation and restoration projects and enhance the future growth of operations in California.

Location:  Dulzura, San Diego County, CA

Exemption Status:  Non-Exempt

 

As the primary maintenance and logistic position for ACE Southern California, the position involves maintaining ACE property, vehicles, and tools to ensure a safe living and working environment for ACE corps members and staff. The position is under the direct supervision of the Pacific West South Director.

 

 Key Accountabilities:

  • Procure quality, economic provisions, equipment, and supplies for Corps Crews.
  • Maintain and replenish first aid and personal protective equipment supply stocks.
  • Inventory and maintain vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure Southern California branch maintains OSHA compliance in facilities and housing.
  • Develop and publish emergency response plans for Dulzura property and train staff on emergency procedures and resources.

 

Typical Duties:

 Management of Food Provisions

  • Purchase quality food in bulk or smaller quantities within budget perimeters.
  • Assist with preparing recipes and ingredient lists for each Corps Crew departing for a project.
  • Plans menus for crews on projects with dietary concerns and allergies taken into consideration.
  • Develop and manage safe, OSHA compatible storage protocols of non-perishable food and cookset items in a clean and organized manner.
  • Oversee operation of sorting leftover food as it returns from a project, ensuring that non-perishables are restocked and coolers are clean, hygienic, and maintained.
  • Track food purchase costs, waste, and member satisfaction with meals, broken down by crew, duration, and crew size.
  • Maintain project cookset supplies and stoves and purchase replacement items as necessary.
  • Repair and maintain sufficient food coolers and dry boxes.

 

Facilities and Equipment Maintenance

  • Guarantee all maintenance and repairs are conducted in a timely manner for the facilities on the ACE Southern California property.
  • Maintain hand tools, including sharpening, fixing and replacing broken tools.
  • Acquire new tools as needed after consulting Project Managers.
  • Keep tools and storage sheds organized and clean.
  • Maintain OSHA compliance in facilities and housing.

 

Project and Safety Supplies:

  • Maintain stocks of personal protective equipment, which includes gloves, hard hats, glasses, and earplugs.
  • Create and maintain a storage and stocking system for first aid supplies for use on a project, in housing, and for vehicles.
  • Fill camp propane tanks on a bi-weekly basis for Corps Crew projects.
  • Develop and implement protocols to manage inventory and repair of ACE PWS equipment, tools, and tents.

 

Vehicles and Trailers Maintenance

  • Oversee all maintenance needs of the vehicle fleet.
  • Inspect vehicle and trailer inspection forms from supervisors and solicit information from supervisors regarding any maintenance that may be needed or items that need replacing.
  • Ensure supervisors are inspecting vehicles and trailers, turning in accurate, timely reporting forms, and conducting daily spot inspections of vehicles. It is essential that you are present when crews return from the field and also the day before crews leave for a project to ensure vehicles and trailers are in good repair and have required documentation and safety equipment.
  • Ensure repairs and routine maintenance is conducted in a timely manner, to a professional standard, and keep maintenance logs up to date.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local repair shops to ensure that work is accomplished with quality and cost-effectiveness as priorities.
  • Maintain stocks of cleaning supplies for vehicles.

 Emergencies

  • Respond to emergencies in a timely manner. These include but are not limited to vehicles, housing, and project sites.
  • Develop and post emergency response and evacuation plans for the property and housing.

 Financial Responsibility

  • Ensure that when purchasing any item that ACE is getting the best value for money, which does not necessarily mean the cheapest, but the best value.
  • Check the internet for prices and develop relationships with local suppliers

 Requirements:

 Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of property and housing maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to shop for and create healthy, cost effective recipes for Corps crews.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, and often under adverse weather conditions and in various climates.
  • Ability to adapt to surrounding work environment and conditions that can change frequently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with corps members, volunteers, field supervisors, and administrative staff.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes.

 

Other Requirements

  • If the candidate is currently an AmeriCorps Member, the candidate must successfully complete their AmeriCorps term before March 10, 2019.
  • Must maintain a positive, constructive work environment conducive to team dynamics.
  • Must be flexible and possess a high work ethic
  • Must maintain timely, effective communication with supervisors, and crew members.
  • Must enforce the use of appropriate safety procedures in all tasks.
  • Must maintain optimal physical health, including a drug-free lifestyle.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must secure First aid/CPR certification within 30 days of employment and maintain certification.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check prior to hire. Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for appointment to this classification. This position is a covered position that may entail recurring access to vulnerable populations such as youth and the elderly. Selection for the position is contingent upon a review of all criminal history results.

Compensation: Full-time, starting at $14.50/hour + housing option available. Benefit eligible.

Hours: 40 hours/week within a flexible schedule.
